AFK Of The Day - Glev of Bree-Land in Lord of the Rings Online
Topic: AFK Of The Day

And so it was in my journeys that I came upon Glev of Bree-Land, obviously lost and bewildered.  Glev, what is wrong?  Are you a transplant from the backwaters of Bree-Land visiting the big city of Bree for the first time, transfixed by its fast-lane lifestyles and big city ways?  Do you pine for the quiet days beside Lake Redneck, fishing your time away while dreaming of your hot cousin?  One can only imagine the difficulties adjusting to civilization and the prospect of marriage outside your extended family.

Or perhaps you, having chosen a lifestyle of adventure, have just realized that entails danger as well and have wet your trousers at the prospect of that now dawning reality.  Either way, bathe before going to the Prancing Pony for a pint.  Reeking of body odor and urine will reduce your chances with all the ladies, even your cousin.

AFK Of The Day - ManPower in Lord of the Rings Online
Topic: AFK Of The Day

Manpower, here you stand, alone and abandoned by the powers that control your destiny, without even the good sense to get out of the street.  Yes, the streets of Bree can be tough, but they are even tougher when you stand right in the middle of them, as horse and rider after horse and rider phase through you.

Perhaps next time, you should step to the curb to avoid such indignities, in front of all the fine folks passing by, or perhaps you had just drank too much at the Prancing Pony to notice.  Either way, good journey, Manpower, the "AA" meeting is down the hall and to your left.

AFK Of The Day - Dalewyn, Foe of Night in Lord of the Rings Online
Topic: AFK Of The Day

Ah, Dalewyn, Foe of Night, I suppose the politics of Bree were too much for you, and dealt you the blow of boredom that the forces of the night could never deal.  You, Dalewyn, the Foe of Night, left abandon in the Bree town hall, at the mercy of the mayor and other unscrupulous political types.  You, my dear, should have stayed in the company of the creatures of the night, carrying on your battle for justice, rather than at the mercy of the bloodsuckers in Bree and their political machinations.  May Sauron have mercy on your soul.

AFK Of The Day - Fadamir, Watcher of Roads in Lord of the Rings Online
Topic: AFK Of The Day

As I ventured forth from Combe with my newest alt, Lanidian, Rune-Keeper extrodinaire, I came across Fadamir, Watcher of the Roads recovering at a rally point, AFK. I would speculate upon what dire circumstances brought poor Fadamir to this inglorious fate, or what was keeping him from watching the roads, but I shall refrain. Good luck in your future endevors, Fadamir, and congradulations on being our first AFK Of The Day.

Snapshot Review: Turok
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Quick Review

Truth is I picked this Turok game because of two things:  it was cheap (got it from gogamer.com for like $5.00) and because it was a PC game with co-op and I had a LAN party coming up.  That's bascially it.  I have played some of the previous Turok games over the years to one extent or another.  I think probably the PS2 game the most extensively of them all to this point.  I enjoyed the PS2 game, although the segments on the flying dinosaur were pretty fucking worthless, in my opinion.  Really, the point of all of this is that this purchase wasn't one of those "Oh my fucking God, I've got to have that game" purchases.  It was definately one of those "Fuck it, it's cheap and probably worth the low price for a bit of entertainment and a change of pace from playing fucking Call of Duty 4 again" purchases.

So I got it a couple months ago, installed it on my hard drive, played a few minutes of the single player campaign, and promptly forgot about it until it was time for the LAN party.  Didn't notice that the advertised co-op wasn't through the campaign as one would reasonably expect.  No, not that at all.  Co-op consists of three small missions, that's all.  Don't get me wrong, the co-op is fun and all, but all the three missions to is serve to insult the customer and tease them with what could have been.  Seriously guys, three fucking missions?  Apparently the crack pipe was being passed around pretty heavily the day that decision was made.  Always nice to see some tacked on bullshit that exists so marketing can have a bullet point, rather than fully implemented so that the customer can have what they are most likely, and reasonably, expecting.  Way to mail it in, guys.

Like I said though, the three missions are fun, but way too short in content, and considering the very limited nature of the rest of the multiplayer stuff, it's obvious very quickly that multiplayer was just tacked on last minute bullshit so they could say, "look, we have multiplayer".  Whatever makes 'em happy.  The truth is self-evident.  The single player game is, however, a great time so far.  Just an enenmy shooting, dinosaur knifing good time.  Granted, it's still early on, and the early snapshot of gameplay could very well change as the game goes on, but right now, I'm optimistic that Turok could very well have what it takes to be entertaining to the last.
